Innovation

We have been the pioneers in using the several new construction technologies and materials in Estonia.

Proceeding from the first case and uniqueness of KUMU Art Museum we had to use the special solutions for the inner climate, security and guarding systems to guarantee the maintenance of cultural values. The establishing of the museum building to the semi-arched hole made in 24-metre limestone steep involved the unique need in our construction practice - consider the serious danger of radiation both in planning, construction and also later exploitation. The vertical 12-15 m high corridor between the dictynema outcrop (clay mixed with petrified and organic substance) located under the cut limestone layers and 0,5 m thick museum wall is operating, in addition to the collection of drainage waters, also as the channel of radon collection and is air-swept just as the remaining rooms of the building. The thickness of the planned and performed ferroconcrete constructions guarantees the safety of the employees and visitors of the museum.

In the exclusive skyscraper-residential tower of Tornimäe the wind wall installed against the perimeter of the whole building had to be used for the first time for the more effective performance of the concrete works and guarantee of the security of the employees which was the closed wall made of corrugated sheet of the height of 2,5 floors attached to the combined carcass, which could be lifted with the progress of the construction by attaching to the edges of the interim ceilings. The system included also the receipt stages of materials attached to the interim ceilings and the enclosed staircase to get to the inner work front of the wind wall. As an innovation the extended 100-metre vertical, in-building pipeline with the connecting links for the transport of concrete to the work fronts of interim ceilings of the floors was used, the functioning body of which was the concrete pump connected with the lower end of the line.

The novel glass facade with the printed pattern of sea waves, console balconies, lift shafts with rounded glasses, novel lighting solutions - LED lamps on the walls, floors and wall panels have been used in Tallink Spa and Conference Hotel.

The ferroconcrete arch bridge over Pedja River established within the construction of Puurmani traffic knot should be pointed out regarding the engineering. The length of the arch opening is 48 metres and the total length of the bridge including the construction of coast posts 90 metres. The overall width of the road on the bridge is 12 m and in the centre of the bridge the height of the road from the water surface of the river is about 10 m. The more complicated stage of the construction was the concreting of the bearing arches, previously erected to the arch planking within the total width of the river, which was established on the supporting bridge made of ferroconcrete panels lifted above the water surface.

Also the viaduct, established in the construction of the extension of Smuuli tee where we used the novel technological solution, is unique. 370 m long viaduct in ferro and prestressed concrete construction consists of three parts: the first part is the 120-m long girder bridge with three openings, 170 m long guy bridge in the middle and the second part is again 80-m long girder bridge with two openings. The 40 m long prestressed concrete girders of girder bridges were cast at site in this zone that in lifting with two cranes one lift was needed for the installation of the girder. 42 m parts remaining to the side of the girder bridges made of ferroconcrete pylons of the guy bridge were cast with the planking supported from the land. The part crossing the railways with the opening of 85 m was cast with the shiftable suspension planking by pylons by stages of 7,6 metre long to the middle. Two of the suspended planking wear the steel frame which were anchored to the previous part of casting, whereas the planking of the next part and its carriers were installed only after the petrification of the concrete of the previous part and stretching of the retightening cables.
